Replacement Foam - Fish Mate Gravity & Pressurized Bio & UV FilterFish Mate Pond Filters Come complete with Foam but require periodic replacement for optimum filtration: Foam for Gravity filters functions as mechanical filter, pulling particulates from the water before reaching the pump. Fish Mate gravity filters pass water over the top of the sponge and use its surface to trap dirt. The filter works more efficiently when the sponge "appears" dirty due to the number of beneficial bacteria contained within it.You should always remember that the sponge should never be over-cleaned, and only be cleaned in pond water otherwise you may cause damage to the delicate bacterial colonies. Foam for pressurized filters functions as both mechanical filter and biological filter. It has the highest quality surface area for best biological filtration. Powerclenz on the pressurised models, is designed only to remove the excess waste in the filter and leave behind a useful amount of biologically active deposit. A foam cleaned by Powerclenz will collect pond waste more effectively than a hand-cleaned foam. Replace each season, particularly if the filter has been without water. |

REPLACEMENT UV LIGHTS - FISH MATE BIO UV POND FILTERFish Mate UV Pond Filters Come complete with New UV Lights. However, because it must always function at PEAK wattage, the effective life of a bulb is limited. It may appear to be lighting properly to the naked eye, but its effectiveness will decrease with age. You should replace your UV light at least once a year - more often if you have a serious algae problem.: The UV bulb is itself made out of quartz glass and therefore, even in the unlikely event of the lamp being splashed with water, the bulb will not break.
